arete Australia is proud to be recognised with two national accolades at the 2025 Australian Institute of Building (AIB) Awards, highlighting our commitment to technical excellence and collaborative project delivery across both commercial and cultural spaces.
arete received the National Professional Excellence Award for the successful delivery of the ANSTO Nanoprobe Satellite Building. Led by Construction Manager Thomas Robertson, this technically demanding project involved the creation of a world-class research facility within the Synchrotron precinct in Clayton. Thomas played a critical role in overseeing the build of the PC2 lab and End Station, where nanometre-scale X-ray experiments are conducted, requiring high levels of vibration control, thermal stability and precision alignment. His calm leadership and technical problem-solving ensured the seamless integration of complex services, structural tolerances and end-user requirements.
In the Interior Construction category, arete received a National Professional Excellence Award for the National Gallery of Victoria Contemporary Upgrade. Delivered in eight stages within a live, heritage-listed environment, the project transformed key public and back-of-house areas while maintaining uninterrupted gallery operations. Works included a new Members' Lounge entrance, upgraded offices and meeting spaces, and a fully operational art loading dock, all delivered with careful coordination and innovative problem-solving.
These awards celebrate not only technical skill but also our team's dedication to safety, quality and collaboration under pressure. Both projects reflect arete’s ability to deliver complex, high-impact builds that serve diverse users, from scientists and researchers to gallery staff and the visiting public.
We are proud to see these achievements recognised at a national level and thank our clients, subcontractors and consultant teams for their continued partnership and support.
